CHARLIEGOLDTHORPE

Antipode is a visual representation of the ‘extended self’, however the objects selected are those that remind an individual of a friend, family member or partner.

The pieces explore how objects such as fashion accessories become more than an object but part of an individual’s identity and in the case of the artwork; it becomes ingrained and imprinted within a person.

Traditional mould making techniques are used to make identical replicas of sensual areas of the body such as hands, neck and face.  Inverted alginate moulds are then combined with positive individual possessions, which when cast in plaster, the material of traditional sculptors, leaves an impression of the artefact within the body.
